There are actually a lot of perks to local travel. When it comes to travel, exploring new destinations doesn’t necessarily have to mean long flights or grueling hours in car.
Travel has a way of alleviating stress in our lives, opening doors to new possibilities and enhancing our minds. Who says you have to travel a long distance to experience these?

IT IS DEFINITELY CHEAPER
Local travel is cheaper for sure. Destinations can be reached by just hopping in the car and heading out thus only requiring the cost of gas and, since you’re staying local, the cost of gas isn’t that bad.
If you can though, plug into the GPS an adventurous route that will send you off the main roads. You could very well make an enchanting find.
Also, you’re hotel stays are typically shorter so the expense of accommodations can be reduced. Typically, when we travel local it is over a 2 to 3 night time period whereas destinations located long distance will extend our stay to 1 to 2 weeks, sometimes more.
LESS SRESSFUL
Local travel doesn’t require a great deal of prior planning. There really isn’t the heavy duty preparing that goes into a local trip that an extended distance vacation necessitates. What is fun about local travel, is it can be a spur of the moment decision, acted upon immediately with next to little preparing.
Sometimes those are the best.
PETS CAN GO!!
Ok, so whose with me when I say taking your furry best buddy along for the ride is the best thing ever? And our pets enjoy, for the most part, taking exciting adventures as much as we do.
Plus, they love spending time with us as we do with them.
Local travel allows us to comfortably bring our sweet pets along too. If you want to spend a few nights in a local destination, pet friendly stays are now incredibly available especially in trendy cozy homes.
An excellent option when traveling with pets is to rent a pet friendly RV.
REPEAT VISITS
So many times, I have fallen in love with a certain shop, restaurant or a locale and it is sad when I have to leave. Due to the distance involved, I know it will be a long time before I will visit again, if ever. This depressing part of long distance travel is not a factor with local destinations.
Local travel allows you to return to that favorite restaurant serving the life changing OREO pie dessert or to that perfect spot to watch the sun go down. There is no need to say the hated “good-bye” but instead you can say “see you again soon”.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS CAN TAG ALONG
If you have family that you like hanging out with and/or awesomely fun friends, it is so much easier to coordinate a local trip with a group as opposed to a long distance one. Local travel allows for everyone involved to work more easily around schedules and personal finances. Planning is by far simpler, especially with group travel.
The flexibility local travel offers is priceless, especially when larger groups are involved. I am so thankful to have wonderful memories of local vacations with grandparents who were unable to travel long distances.
EMERGENCIES
You wish will all your heart for your trip to be a smooth wonderful experience but, you know, sometimes stuff just happens and it happens to us all. Accidents, health related problems, and just any those out-of-our-control issues of day to day life can come into play while on a trip.
Hopefully problems will not happen while you are traveling but if they do, local travel does allow for a far swifter response ability then long distance travel. Family and friends who didn’t go on the trip but who are close enough to come quickly to your aid if need be provides such a feeling of security.
This knowledge actually does reduce some stress in that you know that if something does go awry, home and the people who will most help are close by.
FINDING NEW FRIENDS CLOSE TO HOME
Another perk to local travel is meeting new people. Making new acquaintances can be just as exciting as making new travel discoveries. People are the same yet different everywhere you go and that does include those who are just a town or two over.
Local travel can forge new friendships on the same level as long distance travel but with the perk of being able to personally visit your new friends more frequently. Plus, people know their home towns like the back of their hands so they are going to be able to take you to the best bars, restaurants and attractions that may not be on the beaten trail.
Here’s the thing…wherever you go, make it a point to not only learn about a place, its people, its wildlife, its natural wonders but to also make it your goal and the goal of your fellow travelling companion to simply relax and to enjoy the experience.
