Resorts offering picnic basket meals for their guests are becoming more popular around the world. Picnicking is an awesome way to explore the outdoors of a new place, to experience local cuisine while enjoying incredible views and fresh air and to avoid the restricted confinements of an indoor restaurant.
Picnicking is also great for kids because they can get up and play, there is no need for them to keep quiet and table manners…no need for those annoying rules. It is also a fun activity you can bring your pets along to enjoy.
Below is a list of great hotels/resorts offering delectable packed picnics for their guests however, before we get to those, I provided one of my favorite quick and easy recipes that’s great for traveling. I really don’t care to spend time in a kitchen so these little sandwiches are perfect for picnics or road trips.
This is actually an idea I tried as something to take for the kids to eat in the car while we are travelling. But, it can be used for anything really and it’s so nothing to fix (it has to be or I wouldn’t do it!).
All you need is:
Sliced Bread
Mustard (or whatever relish you like)
Sliced Cheese (I love swiss but again, whatever you like)
Sandwich Meats (I used turkey but whatever floats your boat)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
On a cookie sheet, put down parchment paper or foil in order to catch any runny cheese. You don’t want to have clean up (I hate clean up).
Place one slice of bread on parchment paper, add mustard, deli meat and cheese to bread and then place in oven.
I usually give it until the cheese is melty and a little bubbly looking, around 5 minutes but just check it and see because you may want your cheese a little crispy along the edges.
Take out of the oven and, after they cool a little, roll them into the shape of a round tube. All that’s left is to pack them up (I can get FIVE in one sandwich bag) and take them somewhere fun to eat!
