I’VE DONE THIS! WOW! It is an amazing experience flying above the ocean like a sea gull. There is nothing like peering out at perfectly stunning islands surrounded by beautiful clear water while the wind is the only sound you hear. It is a peaceful and relaxing occasion however, it is thrilling and exhilarating as well.

From this bird’s eye height, you get a glimpse of the incredible layout design of the islands and their formations. It is spectacular to behold.

These are fantastic activities for the Keys. The water is fairly calm, no huge waves at all, which makes for a lovely easy glide while allowing for major sightseeing. Your best options for launching…basically everywhere but a few favorites to put in at are Smathers Beach, Sugar Loaf Key, Higgs Beach and Fort Zachery Taylor.

The uniqueness of the Keys allow you many choices to explore in your kayak from Florida Bay shallow waters, the ocean itself, creeks, channels…to whatever you are in the mood to cruise. Smathers Beach is the most popular beach in Key West and the largest public beach at a half mile long. Located on the south side of the island, Smathers is a great hangout with water sports, showers, changing rooms. volleyball and a few palm trees to escape the sun. Sunsets are the most beautiful here on this beach.

Higgs Beach is small with a pier, rest rooms, beautiful water, snorkeling and clean. A lovely place to spend the day.

Rest Beach has large palms, picnic tables and a favorite of mine, shell hunting. You cannot swim however due to the rocks.

Dog Beach is for the dogs. Seriously. At this beach, you can let your dog run unleashed and play till his/her heart is content. After all, they too need some Key West vitamin D.

GOING FOR A STROLL

A leisurely walk along the streets of Key West is my most favorite outdoor activity whenever I visit. The architecture and charm of the buildings lining the streets are captivating and I find myself standing there and staring at such beautiful structures for lengthy periods of time (hope I don’t make anyone nervous).
