“But, have you ever been to the cheaper side of Myrtle Beach, Surfside, which is just down the road from Myrtle Beach? I asked.
“No, I haven’t”, she replied so, of course, I had to tell her about it.
Myrtle Beach is hopping and everyone should take part in this awesome town, but why not make your memories at a more budget friendly level so you can keep going back?
That’s how I do it because I definitely want to go as much as possible. I do this by staying a mere eight miles down the beach along US 17 at a quiet residential town called Surfside. Surfside has a lot going for it because not only is it cheaper then Myrtle Beach, it’s as beautiful, quieter and family oriented.
CLICK IMAGE ABOVE TO RESERVE AT HOLIDAY INN OCEANFRONT SURFSIDE BEACH OR BOOKING.COM – Our favorite place to stay! The staff was great and very helpful! You can enjoy gorgeous ocean views from the balcony and fabulous pina coladas with extra whipped cream at reasonable prices.
My advice would definitely be to try to grab you an oceanfront room which this is totally doable even on a budget. You will be thrilled with your view.
And what an OUTSTANDING view it is! The location of the beach is at such a degree that when you wake up in the morning and look out the window, the water is so close it’s as if you are sitting on a ship in the middle of the ocean. (That’s actually what my daughter said)
This Holiday Inn is not an Express but, there is an onsite restaurant. We did not eat dinner here however, the breakfast was pretty darn good. Plus there is an onsite bar where the pina coladas are heavenly and thick with an oversupply of whip cream AND you can take them to the beach.
AWESOME ATTRACTIONS AND TOURS VIA TRIPADVISOR
There are chair and umbrella rentals available all along the beach or you can set up your own family compound and, here is the thing, you have SPACE. The beach is gorgeous and not overly crowded. You can catch that perfect boogie board wave and ride it to its end without having to prematurely crash yourself to avoid a wader.
Awesome waves, lovely sandy beach and sun. Beautiful day!
Time to eat!! Nothing says vacation like hitting the restaurants after a busy calorie busting day.
A great place to eat is at a family owned restaurant called Conch Cafe which sits right on the beach roughly two miles down the road from the Holiday Inn. During the week, it’s fairly easy to grab a table sitting out on the covered porch. Here you can enjoy delish food always served with a smile but without maxing out the card. You will not go wrong if you order their cheeseburger with fries and don’t even think about leaving without devouring their OREO PIE. (OMG) CONCH CAFE
We eat here regularly because the price is reasonable, the atmosphere a laid back beach style and the view is tremendous. However there are other choices at this end of Myrtle Beach.
Along the road between the Conch Cafe and Holiday Inn Surfside, there is Scotty’s Beach Bar (loud hopping music and every one is standing out in the road, can’t miss it. Driving another thirteen minutes down US 17 heading south is a restaurant haven called Murrells Inlet.
Murrells Inlet is very pretty and crowded so be sure you get a reservation at one of the many restaurants available at this location. We ate one evening here at the DEAD DOG SALOON (pics of passed pets on walls) and, although we had no reservations and had to wait two hours, the atmosphere is fun and there is a lot to explore.
Another location full of restaurant and shopping options and located just outside Myrtle Beach and Surfside is Broadway At The Beach.

BROADWAY AT THE BEACH is a shoppers delight and a husband’s nightmare but it is free to enter and to explore the beachy shops, themed restaurants and activities. Check out everything from an upside down house to wild and crazy fast boat rides.
A huge recommendation for you to try is eating breakfast one morning at the PAULA DEENS FAMILY KITCHEN. This meal proved to be fantastic in it’s taste, quantity and unfortunately in it’s price but, you will be so full, you won’t eat again for a week so, money saved.
A favorite of mine is sitting in the rocking chairs just outside Paula’s door, digesting and watching the kaleidoscope of people passing by. Be sure you check out Paula’s shop located underneath the restaurant.
My story to the cashier came to an end just as my asparagus bleeped across the scanner.
“I never knew this,” she said as she waited patiently for me to dig my card out of the abyss of my purse. “I am going to go. My next vacation is in a few weeks and I am going to try it”.
I told her that I was glad and that I hoped she enjoyed her trip as I hope you will as well.
